Speech &

Language

Pathology

People who have difficulty with speech, fluency, language, literacy, social interaction and swallowing can benefit from SLP services.  Specifically, these disorders include:

Speech: difficulty producing speech correctly and fluently due to a Motor Speech Disorder (i.e. Apraxia of speech, Dysarthria), a Speech Sound Disorder (i.e. Articulation, Phonology), or a Fluency Disorder (i.e. Stuttering).

Language: difficulty understanding others, or sharing one’s thoughts, feelings and ideas in a verbal, written, or augmentative/alternative manner.

Social communication:  Difficulty reading non-verbal clues indicated through facial expressions and body language, and interpreting meaning beyond the words themselves (i.e. as indicated through one’s use of tone, intonation, sarcasm, or humour). Difficulty with taking perspective and social problem solving.

Cognitive-communication: difficulties with attention, memory, planning, problem-solving or organizing thoughts.

Swallowing: difficulties eating and swallowing due to injury, illness or stroke - dysphagia

After learning your history and goals, a Speech and Language Pathologist will assess current function and provide a treatment plan including education, training and exercises to improve your disorder.
